Ray is deeply committed to recognizing the beauty of God in all aspects of life, seeing His presence in the natural world and the community around him. This belief fuels his dedication to environmental stewardship, where he actively volunteers and leads initiatives to protect and preserve the planet. Whether through his professional role in the waste and recycling industry or his countless volunteer hours, Ray is driven by a sense of responsibility to care for the environment, ensuring it reflects the divine beauty he honors in his daily life. His work is not only a service to his community but also an expression of his faith and devotion to God’s creation.
Ray has dedicated over 6,233 hours of volunteer service, including 2,661 hours focused on Keep America Beautiful initiatives.
He served as Board President of Keep California Beautiful from 2013 to 2022, stepping up during a funding crisis to ensure the organization’s continued success. Currently, Ray serves as the Compliance and Auditing Manager for Burrtec Kern Waste.
His volunteer roles have included work with Arvin Green Arts, McDonald’s E-Waste, the Bakersfield Mayor’s GAC Committee, Kern Green Awards, and the Greater Bakersfield Green Expo. These experiences led to his appointment on the boards of Keep Bakersfield Beautiful and Keep California Beautiful.
In 2015, Ray received the President’s Volunteer Service Award – Lifetime Achievement Award from President Obama in recognition of his dedication. His personal motto, “Educate, Engage & Encourage,” reflects his passion for service, as he lives out the Marine Corps motto and Code of Conduct: Semper Fidelis / Always Faithful: God, Country, Corps, Amen!
Ray was also inducted into the 2024 America’s Marquis Who’s Who for his 23 years in the refuse and recycling industry. He has led successful initiatives like the Greater Bakersfield Green Expo and Classroom Recycle Container Program, earning the role of Chair for the Career Technical and Education (CTE) Committee, selected by local refuse and recycling haulers throughout Metro Kern County.
